School Nurse Jobs
Description
School nurses practice at public, private, vocational, and alternative schools across the United States. Some positions require frequent travel among schools. Most school nurses work regular, daytime hours. The school nurse provides health care to students and staff, performs health screenings and can serve as a liaison between school personnel, family, community and healthcare providers to advocate for health care and a healthy school environment.
Experience
Most schools prefer hiring nurses with at least 2 years of experience in an acute care setting. The National Association of School Nurses (NASN) recommends a 4 year BSN and RN certification as the minimum standard.
Salary
School nurses generally earn lower than other nurses, but it varies greatly from state to state. In many districts, school nurses enjoy the same summer and holiday vacations as students and faculty – which is definitely a perk.
